The road accident that occurred early this Saturday afternoon on the A25 motorway in Celorico da Beira, Guarda district, left one dead and two seriously injured, sources from the GNR and Civil Protection said.

Source from Public Relations of the General Command of the GNR stated the seriousness of the three victims — one dead and two seriously injured — but did not specify the number of vehicles involved in the accident, which occurred at kilometer 149 of the A25, in the downward direction, between Guarda and Celorico from Beira.

The same source indicated, at 4:44 pm, that the A25, which connects Aveiro to Vilar Formoso, remains closed in the direction in which the accident occurred (Guarda – Celorico da Beira) but that it is closed in the opposite direction, from west to east, between Celorico da Beira e Guarda, has already been lifted and circulation has been normalized.

A source from the Beiras and Serra da Estrela sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection command stated that one of the seriously injured was transported by helicopter to the Viseu hospital and the other by ambulance to the Guarda hospital.

The alert for the accident was given at 2:25 pm this Saturday and there were 39 operational personnel and 14 vehicles from the firefighters of Guarda and Celorico da Beira, GNR and a helicopter from the National Institute of Medical Emergency (GNR) in security and rescue operations for the victims ( INEM).
