300 km of rivers and streams will be restored to prevent flooding and improve water quality

A thinking about adaptation to the risk of floods, the renaturalization of artificialized sections to restore ecological balance to riverside ecosystems, emergency measures after fires and improving the quality of surface waters, the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) has the coordination in hand from a list of 18 projects on rivers and streams in 24 municipalities in the Center and North of the country. The interventions, which began in 2023, involve an investment of 19.4 million euros (out of a total of 30 million euros planned), financed by the Environmental Fund and the European REACT-EU program.
