An 18-month-old baby drowned today in the swimming pool of a house in the municipality of Ansião, Leiria district, Civil Protection sources told the Lusa agency.
According to the 2nd commander of the Ansião Volunteer Fire Department, Pedro Paz, the alert for the accident, in the town of Casal António Braz, parish of Santiago da Guarda, reached the corporation at 9:52 am.
“When we arrived, the child was already out of the pool and the mother was carrying out resuscitation maneuvers, without success,” said Pedro Paz.
10 operatives arrived at the scene, supported by five vehicles, from the Ansião Volunteer Firefighters, the National Institute of Medical Emergency and the National Republican Guard (GNR), including a team of psychologists from the Coimbra Urgent Patients Guidance Center, according to the Sub Command. -Regional Emergency and Civil Protection of the Leiria Region.
The president of the Santiago da Guarda Parish Council, David Rodrigues, said that the family is an emigrant in France and was on vacation in the municipality at the time.
The GNR is investigating the circumstances of the accident, a source from the Leiria Territorial Command told the Lusa agency.
