PSP identifies three suspects after a night of less disrespect in the Lisbon area

The Public Security Police (PSP) recorded seven incidents of burning trash bins and identified three suspects in the Metropolitan Area of ​​Lisbon during the early hours of this Sunday, according to the statement sent this morning, thus registering new disturbances following the death of Odair Moniz, shot dead by the police at the beginning of the week, in Amadora.

In the same document, the PSP also says that there was also an attempt at arson and exploding firecrackers and the stoning of a store in a shopping center, without identifying where. The incidents were recorded in the municipalities of Almada, Lisbon, Loures and Odivelas.

The PSP repudiates and will not tolerate acts of disorder and destruction carried out by criminal groups, committed to confronting the authority of the State and disturbing the security of the community, groups that are part of a minority and that do not represent the remaining Portuguese population that just wants to and wants to live in peace and tranquility”, says the public entity.

Odair Moniz’s funeral will take place this Sunday afternoon in Buraca, after almost a week of disrespect in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area and two demonstrations in the capital that took place on Saturday, also in Lisbon.

The first to be marked was called by the Vida Justa movement, to demand justice for the death of the 43-year-old man. Afterwards, a counter-demonstration was scheduled by Chega, for the same time and same place, with the aim of “For our police, for the rule of law”, leading Vida Justa to adapt the location, moving to Avenida da Liberdade.

The demonstration organized in honor of Odair Moniz brought together thousands of people, who went down the avenue to Restauradores. It started around 3pm in the afternoon and ended around 6pm, with a minute of silence and several tribute speeches. The second was attended by around 200 people and lasted approximately 90 minutes. Both went smoothly “peaceful, serene and civil”, according to the PSP.

In the last few days, the PSP recorded more than 100 incidents of disturbances on public roads in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area and detained more than 20 people, with seven injuries being recorded, one of which was seriously injured, as a result ofthe death of Odair Moniz, a 43-year-old Cape Verdean citizen and resident in Bairro do Zambujal, in Amadora.

The General Inspectorate of Internal Administration and the PSP opened investigations and the agent who shot Odair, aged 20, was named a defendant.
