Petition about criminal complaint against Ventura and Pedro Pinto has more than 47 thousand signatures

One online petition which files a criminal complaint against Chega’s leader, André Ventura, and the leader of that party’s parliamentary group, Pedro Pinto, has more than 47 thousand signatures. The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) has already opened a inquiry into the statements of the two deputiesof the right-wing party.

In addition to André Ventura and Pedro Pinto, the criminal complaint is also filed against the parliamentary advisor and youth leader, Ricardo Reis. At issue is the publication on social network X reacting to the death of citizen Odair Moniz : “One less criminal… one less Bloc voter”. The post was, however, deleted.

According to the complainants, the other two members of the party also made statements that instigated the commission of a crime.

Pedro Pinto said, in a debate on RTP3 with the parliamentary leader of the Left Bloc Fabien Figueiredo, on Wednesday: “Perhaps, if [os agentes] If they shot more and killed people, the country would be more in order.” In the debate, the BE deputy himself accuses Pedro Pinto of “inciting a crime”.

André Ventura suggested that the police officer who shot Odair Moniz should be decorated and not indicted. “We should not make this man a defendant; we should thank this police officer for the work he did”, adding that the police officer was “stopping a criminal who was available with sharp weapons, to attack police officers”. This last information has already been refuted, since the agents admitted, during interrogations, that were not threatened with a knife (contrary to what was said in the official PSP statement).

Former Minister of Justice Francisca Van Dunem and former Minister of Education João Costa, João Maria Jonet, Daniel Oliveira and Pedro Marques Lopes are some of the signatories of a criminal complaint filed. When publishing this news, 47.11 people had already signed the online petition.

According to reports on social media, most of the signatures appeared in the last few hours. In the last hour, at least another five thousand people signed the document that accuses Chega members of “instigation to commit a crime”, “apology for the commission of a crime”, “incitement to collective disobedience” and “offense to the memory of a deceased person ”.

Several have been the appeal of several internet users. “Following the death of Odair Moniz by a PSP agent, André Ventura and Pedro Pinto made serious, possibly criminal, statements. A group of citizens joined together in a joint criminal complaint, so that these dangerous and damaging behaviors for democracy do not go unpunished”, can be read in an image shared both on X and on Instagram.

“The law is for everyone./ Sign the petition”, says another post.
