PGR opens investigation into statements by Ventura and Pedro Pinto about the death of Odair Moniz

The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) opened an investigation into statements made by André Ventura and Pedro Pinto, leader and deputy of Chega, about the death of Odair Moniz.

In response to Lusa, the PGR confirmed today “the opening of an investigation” regarding statements by Chega officials.

According to the PGR, the investigation is carried out under the terms of the Lisbon Regional Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP).

At issue are statements by Chega’s parliamentary leader, Pedro Pinto, about the riots in recent days related to the death of Odair Moniz, shot by the police in Amadora, stating that if the security forces “shot more to kill, the country would be more in order.”

The president of Chega, André Ventura, also said about the PSP agent who shot Odair Moniz: “We shouldn’t make this man a defendant; we should thank this police officer for the work he did. We should decorate him and not make him accused, threaten prosecution or threaten to arrest him.”
