Crossed with bubbles and respect

In the spring, Nuno Cancela de Abreu launched the wines he had dreamed of making for years, creations of author and place — his Quinta da Giesta, where previously only Fonte do Ouro came from —, positioning them in a medium/high segment, the bar stayed up there. From the starter proposals — a beautiful and very gastronomic rosé from Touriga Nacional stands out — to the top references — we have already written here about the white and red Grande Reservas, both great —, there is a common denominator: freshness, elegance, lightness, in two words, bottled Dão.

Completing a portfolio that even includes a super delicate and balanced late harvest of Malvasia Fina and Encruzado, this brute now appears natural that smells like green apples — according to some winemakers, this is due to its character varietal — and baker’s yeast, it has very fine bubbles and caresses our palate with a delicious and very harmonious foam, an extraordinary experience completed by the volume and texture that the sparkling wine has.

Made exclusively from Encruzado, this Respectus Brut Nature 2019 is mineral, has a beautiful acidity and a bubbly freshness, without in any way hurting the taste, as happens with some sparkling wines, and a citrusy and clean finish, very fresco. Incredibly pleasurable and up to different challenges, including following a meal from start to finish.

Nuno Cancela de Abreu, who has already made wines in several regions of the country and needs no introduction, says that he will only produce this sparkling wine in exceptional years, anticipating that the next harvest should be 2023, to be launched in 2028.

That’s another one: this sparkling wine is five years old — it aged for around four years, with yeast, before being ‘degorged’ — and it looks like a wine. youngsuch is its delicacy, freshness and even citrus color — the chosen bottle is purposely wider in the base and narrows at the top, seeking to ensure “less contact of oxygen with the sparkling wine”.

Born in a Mediterranean climate and clayey soils, this sparkling wine (or its baptism) aims to show respect for complicated-queen of white wines in the region and by Dão himself, but he is also a proposal of respect.
