“Hezbollah has more power than it has ever had in its history. It is rich and powerful, almost like a state.”
Thanassis Cambanis, journalist and author of “A Privilege to Die: Inside Hezbollah’s Legions and Their Endless War” and five other books on the Middle East, regrets that the United States of America has abandoned all reasonable red lines, and guarantees that the Israeli and North American authorities are mistaken about how to weaken Hezbollah. In an interview with Expresso, the Middle East affairs analyst believes that Lebanese politics leans towards affinity with Hezbollah, and that, therefore, it is difficult for the West to reverse this trend. However, Cambanis argues that we need to ask what kind of state world leaders want to see in Lebanon: strong or weak?
