A tattoo artist accuses Jorge ‘El Mago’ Valdivia of rape: the former Rayo Vallecano was arrested

Jorge Valdivia, a 41-year-old former soccer player who won the 2015 and 2016 Copa América with the Chilean national team, was arrested after being accused of alleged sexual abuse.

Judge Ely Rothfeld ruled that the Chilean will remain in preventive detention for a period of 90 days, arguing that there is a risk to public safety.

The complainant told the police that ‘El Mago’ Valdivia, who was loaned to Rayo Vallecano in January 2004, met with her in a restaurant to discuss a tattoo design that he wanted to get.

The woman explained that they both drank and that the next morning she woke up in her apartment feeling confused and with apparent signs of sexual assault.

Valdivia confirmed that they had had sexual relations.

Jorge Valdivia, who retired in 2022 and currently works as a commentator on ‘Los Tenores’, sent a statement to BiobioChile after learning of the complaint: “Given the circulation in some media about a complaint against me for sexual assault, I want to point out “I do not know the motivations for that action, but I deny having sexually assaulted any person.”

“I had a consensual relationship with an adult woman, and for that reason I am going to make myself available to the Public Ministry first thing tomorrow morning,” said the former Colo-Colo, Universidad de Concepción, Rayo Vallecano, Servette, Palmeiras, Al- Ain, Al-Wahda, Morelia, Mazatlán, Unión La Calera and Necaxa.
