Casais’ contribution to the creation of smart cities

Making cities smarter involves making them inclusive, safe and sustainable, adopting measures capable of helping to combat climate change.

“Sustainability is part of our DNA”, assures Antonio Carlos Rodrigues, CEO of Grupo Casais, a construction company that started at the age of sixty-five. This turn to greener construction began when the group became aware of the impact that construction has on people and the environment. “Traditional methods could not support our future”, he assumes.

Competent people, valued territory, innovative solutions and ethical and collaborative business are the pillars of the organization.

“Our role is to develop solutions that can give people what they need, while minimizing the impact on the environment”, says Antônio Carlos Rodrigues

Europe, the United States and Latin America are the continents in which the company operates, with a presence in seventeen countries. “Innovation travels very easily”, says the CEO of Grupo Casais, and this expansion allows them to implement their solutions in the rest of the world.

MITH – Minho Innovation & Technology Hub was developed by the company in partnership with the Municipality of Guimarães and the University of Minho. Bringing companies, academia and society together to think about and implement better solutions that respond to current and future needs is an increasingly used strategy.

In this sense, MITH ends up being a space for innovation and technology, designed to “inspire, drive ideas and share knowledge”, dedicated to construction and sustainability.

O Sustainability Accelerator is an initiative by Expresso and BPI that consists of holding sessions where strategies, advice and steps are presented to decarbonize and have a sustainable business, within European and global objectives.

This project is supported by sponsors, with all content created, edited and produced by Expresso (see Code of Conduct), without external interference.
