Contempts in Greater Lisbon: Isaltino Morais calls for calm and considers that “provocateurs” intend to clash with the police

The mayor of Oeiras, Isaltino Morais, called for calm this Tuesday and stated that the objective of those responsible for the riots in several neighborhoods of Lisbon is to provoke the police.

For the second night in a row, contempt was recorded following the death of a man shot by the PSP, in the early hours of Monday, in Cova da Moura. The disturbances that began in the Zambujal neighborhood, in the municipality of Amadora, spread this morning to other parts of Greater Lisbon, including the Portela neighborhood, in Carnaxide.

To journalists, the mayor of Oeiras rejected the wave of alarmism and downplayed the damage caused in Carnaxide: “There is no damage other than a car that was set on fire.”

Isaltino also appealed to residents “not to allow themselves to be involved by provocative groups, which are naturally marginal”, and said that the police are “acting with the utmost tranquility”.

“What the provocateurs want is for the police to enter the neighborhood and, naturally, get into confrontations.”

In the Portela neighborhood, in Carnaxide, at least one Carris bus burned down. A group asked the driver and passengers to get off the bus and took the vehicle to another area of the neighborhood.

The SIC reporting team at the scene passed several burning cars and trash cans.
