Images of the “comet of the century” passing in Portugal
This Sunday, Portugal witnessed the passage of a comet that could be seen with the naked eye at the end of the day.
It was possible to observe the celestial body in low-light areas and without the aid of a telescope, as shown by several publications shared on social media.
On Saturday, the same comet was seen in other parts of the world, such as in neighboring Spain or California, in the United States of America.
O comet in question, C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan–ATLAS, nicknamed the “comet of the century”, reached the closest point in orbit to the sun on September 27. At the time, it was possible to see it in the Southern Hemisphere. Now it was visible to those in the Northern Hemisphere.
According to NASA, this was a rare opportunity to see it, since that celestial body has an orbit of 80,000 years (which, it should be noted, could, however, be altered if the gravity of another planet ends). for leading him astray). But this means that the last time this comet passed close to Earth was during the time of Neanderthal Man.
