At least 67 injured in Hezbollah attack on the Israeli city of Haifa

At least 67 people were injured today, some seriously, following a Hezbollah drone attack in the Israeli region of Haifa, according to Israel’s emergency services.

The attack, which has already been claimed by Hezbollah, took place in Binyamina, south of the city of Haifa.

According to information released by Israel’s Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service, 67 people were injured, of which four were in critical condition, five in serious condition and 14 in moderate condition, while the rest had minor injuries.

Most of the injured were taken to the Hillel Yaffe medical center in Hadera, in the Haifa district, the same source adds.

“The Army intercepted a ‘drone’ that was launched from Lebanon towards the northern naval zone. Civilians must continue to follow the guidelines of the Home Front Command”, said the Israeli army, in a brief statement.

Also in a statement, Hezbollah said that its fighters ambushed Israeli troops and returned to fighting “at close range” with the Israeli army, which is carrying out incursions in southern Lebanon.

For three weeks, Israel has been carrying out an intense bombing campaign against southern and eastern Lebanon, as well as the capital, Beirut, in addition to a ground offensive.

At least five UNIFIL soldiers were recently injured during fighting in southern Lebanon between Israeli forces and the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah, an ally of the Palestinian Sunni Hamas movement, at war with Israel for a year.

In almost a year of cross-border clashes that caused the displacement of tens of thousands of people on both sides of the border between Israel and Lebanon, the Israeli army has intensified its air attacks against Hezbollah.

The conflict worsened on October 1st with the ground invasion of the Israeli army in southern Lebanon – where it currently maintains four divisions -, accompanied by an intensification of Israeli bombings, which have already caused more than 2,200 deaths and 10,000 injuries, the majority in the month of October.
