Emirates Team New Zealand, intractable, continues to overwhelm INEOS Britannia

He Emirates Team New Zealand dominates the final of the 37th America’s Cup by 3-0 at the end of the second day by surpassing the INEOS Britannia the challenger in the first and only round of the day (third of the Final) by 52 seconds on the regatta fields of Barcelona.

The sleeve began with wind component Northeast-East (Gregal-Levante) of some 9 knots intensity and waves of about 70-80 cms. The regatta director, Iain Murray decided shorten the eight planned sections to only sixlengthening each section from 1.5 miles (2.8 km) to 1.7 miles (3.2 km). Wind fluctuations would force him to trim them to 1.3 miles (2.4 km) later.

All this didn’t change anything outcome of the sleeve and the absolute dominance of the Emirates Team New Zealand which already began in the pre-start after the British entered first from the port side (left side) and the ‘kiwis’ 12 seconds later.

And there came one masterful maneuver New Zealand about the INEOs, dropping from the right side from the outlet box on the British port side and forcing a penalty for not allowing him the right of passage (port-starboard), which was materially going to end the fight.

The New Zealanders went out alone and the British had given up 100 meters after serving the penalty. The ‘Taihoro’ New Zealander was again 2-3 knots (4-6 km/h) faster upwind and passed the first buoy with 19″ lead.

The bell rang in favor of the INEOS Britannia since at 3:15 p.m., the time scheduled to begin the second round of the day, (fourth of the Final) wind on the regatta field was barely 6.5 knots (12 km/h), the minimum to give a start and the forecasts were that it was not going to change, decreeing to the 15:30 the postponement of the heat.
