Sanctuary of Fátima hosts final ceremonies of the last great pilgrimage of the year

This Sunday, October 13th, the Sanctuary of Fátima is the stage for the final ceremonies of the last international anniversary pilgrimage of the year, presided over by the Archbishop of Manaus, Cardinal Leonardo Steiner.

After many thousands of pilgrims participated in the candlelight procession and celebration of the word on the last night, a large number of faithful are expected this Sunday, with the weekend in mind.

Cardinal Steiner’s diocese, in the middle of the Amazon, should continue to be present at the ceremonies, after, on Saturday night, the prelate remembered the indigenous peoples who suffer from the lack of rain or deforestation.

In front of tens of thousands of people present at the sanctuary for the ceremonies to begin the pilgrimage on October 12 and 13 to Cova da Iria, the prelate said he had “the Amazon communities, the indigenous peoples, the riverside communities” in his heart.

On this pilgrimage, the sanctuary records the presence of 181 organized groups of faithful from 31 countries.

These 181 groups bring together around 7500 pilgrims, who come from Portugal to Vietnam, passing through countries such as Spain, Italy, Austria, Croatia, Brazil, Canada, China or Indonesia.

The country with the most groups enrolled in the services of the Sanctuary of Fátima is Italy, with 28 groups, followed by the United States, with 23 groups, and Portugal and Poland, with 22.
