“Filhos do Meio”: the history of hip-hop on the South Bank of the Tagus in an exhibition in Almada

“Filhos do Meio – Hip Hop à Margem” is the title of an exhibition centered on the history of rap, breakinggraffiti and DJing, in the municipality of Almada and Miratejo (Seixal), which will open on October 26th at the Almada Museum – Casa da Cidade.

The exhibition, part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of April 25th, can be visited until March 29th and brings together several pieces, photographs and videos from the last 30 years of hip-hop in Portuguese. In 2024, three decades will mark since the first releases of the genre in Portugal, such as “Portukkkal é um Erro”, by General D, or the compilation “Rapública”, which includes songs by Boss AC or Black Company.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a book and a documentary, directed by Luís Almeida and produced by Alexandra Oliveira Matos, whose premiere is scheduled soon. The project was coordinated by Rui Miguel Abreu, a BLITZ collaborator, and the rapper TNT, from Almada. It also has design by Chikolaev, from the publisher Mano a Mano, and with research work by Ricardo Farinha, author of the book “Hip Hop Tuga – Quatro Décadas de Rap”.

On the opening day, there will also be concerts by Juana Na Rap, Tom Freakin Soyer and Dani G, as well as performances by breakingDJ sets and graffiti demonstrations. Until March 29, more activities parallel to the exhibition will be revealed.
