EU creates air bridge to deliver humanitarian aid to Lebanon

The European Union will start sending more aid to Lebanon, and will also speed up its delivery, through the creation of an air bridge. According to a statement, the air bridge is made up of three flights departing from Dubai and Brindisi (Italy), with the first expected to arrive in Beirut on Friday.

The flights, funded by the European Commission, will transport equipment from the EU stockpile, including hygiene items, blankets and emergency shelter equipment, among other items.

This aid is in addition to that already sent, under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, by Belgium, Slovakia, Spain, France and Poland and that from Greece, which will arrive in Lebanon in the coming days.

Qatar has also launched an “air bridge” to transport medical supplies and food aid to Lebanon, a Qatari minister said in Beirut on Tuesday.

“Today we launched the airlift with consecutive planes transporting food, shelter materials and medical supplies,” said Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, Lolwah Al-Khater, from a public hospital in Beirut, quoted by the website “Gulf News”.
