Álvaro takes ‘career’ at Benfica

The arrival of Bruno Lage has changed the face of Benfica -they have five wins in five games- thanks, in part, to the importance that has gainedÁlvaro Fernández Carreras (Ferrol, 2003).

The former Deportivo, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Granadawho began the course with Roger Schmidt as a substitute for Jan-Niklas Beste, has become indisputable since the arrival of Lage. A total of nine games played: 729′.

“I think that now we are more offensive, deeper, we have recovered the DNA of Benfica,” admits Carreras, who appears in the ‘top 10’ in several sections of the Portuguese League: goal actions generated, progressive drives [de más de 10 metros en dirección a la portería rival]centers to the area…

The goal in Champions Leagueover Atlético (4-0)It was erected in its great showcase. He didn’t need to score or attend: He was the Benfica player who intercepted the most balls (4), who came into contact with the ball the most times (100), who made the most clearances (2)the second who gave the most passes (83), the second who made the most dribbles (5)…

It was not only projected by band. In getting the ball out he played a capital role, as ‘Tribuna Expresso’ was responsible for reflecting: “He was the one who made the most vertical passes (21) for Benfica. He often delayed his position to the line of the center backs to be the divergent touch in the construction. Of the 79 passes made by Otamendi, 28 were for Carreras, in turn the most advanced player at the base of the plays“.

From a quite different profile, Álvaro has become a worthy successor to Grimaldo at Benfica. In fact, He is international under 21but in Portugal they already place him in the orbit of the absolute team.

“I see the selection as a reward. I am proud to be able to be in the under 21 team. You never know, but that option is always present,” ‘Sport TV’ admitted. Don’t rule it out: Álvaro has taken a ‘career’.
