“Pragmatic centrist”, ambitious and authoritarian: how they look at Gouveia e Melo

DTwo former senior Navy officers, who commanded Henrique Gouveia e Melo and know him well, always knew that the then young officer was ambitious and also always saw him as a man of the center — between PS and PSD, depending on the circumstances —, even if this was not talked about in the military environment. Both guarantee that he never expressed “anything that had to do with Chega’s positions”, the only party that has already admitted to supporting him for a possible candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic.
