The National Republican Guard (GNR) seized, on Wednesday, hides, elephant skin and feet, valued at more than 100 thousand eurosin an inspection action in the municipality of Vila do Conde, Porto, informed the guard this Thursday.
In a statement, the GNR said that the seizure of elephant parts was carried out following a tax inspection of a transport companycarried out by the Fiscal Action Unit, through the Porto Fiscal Action Detachment, in collaboration with the Nature and Environment Protection Service, of the Porto Territorial Command.
During this action, a report was prepared which, together with the seized material, will be sent to the Judicial Court of Vila do Conde.
The seized elephant parts were valued at more than 100 thousand euros and are covered by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), signed by Portugal, which prohibits their commercialization.
In the note, the GNR calls for the reporting of nature and environmental situations, and the SOS Environment and Territory Line (808 200 520) can be used for this purpose.
