Lauryn Hill accused of fraud by Fugees colleague: “I considered him a friend”

Lauryn Hill was sued by Pras Michel, her Fugees colleague.

At issue is the cancellation of the group’s new tour, which should have taken place in 2024. Pras accuses Lauryn Hill of fraud and breach of contract, claiming not to have received any amount despite the shows being sold out.

In a statement, the artist criticized Pras, stating that the process is “full of false allegations and unfounded attacks” and revealing that both she and Wyclef Jean, also from the Fugees, handed Pras around 2.72 million euros so that he could resolve the legal problems in which you are involved.

The lawsuit, Lauryn Hill continues, “omits that an excessive payment was made to him, and it omits that Pras failed to repay the substantial loans I made to him, willingly.” The artist even admits that this situation is “disheartening”: “I considered him a friend”, she says.

The Fugees’ new tour in the United States was canceled just three days before it was scheduled to begin in August. Dates are still scheduled in the United Kingdom and Europe, but its future is uncertain.

In 2023, Pras was found guilty of conspiracy, witness tampering and undue assistance to a foreign government, for having participated in a scheme carried out by China, with the purpose of influencing the North American elections.
