Application of the transport pass Navegante reopens but with constraints

The Navegante mobile phone application is once again operational, although with “some constraints”, and can now be downloaded free of charge for young students, a source from Transportes Metropolitanos de Lisboa told Lusa.

According to a source from the company that manages the Navegante card, it is not yet possible to confirm whether “there was a cyber attack or an internal problem” with the mobile phone application.

According to the source, “the previous version has been restored and the application is starting to recover”, with the app’s managers already pointing out that “free uploads and use of the application have been registered”.

The source recalled that users up to the age of 19 can upload the free young student pass to the application. If you update your Navegante card details by October 31st, your card will be valid until you reach the age of 19 or until its expiry date.

Users between 19 and 23 years old must select the option to extend the youth free membership in the app, update their data and submit proof of registration and not a declaration as was essential until this year. In this way, the free Navegante card will be valid until September 2025.

On Tuesday, TML explained that the mobile phone application had been under computer attack since the previous day and it was impossible to load transport passes for the Lisbon Metropolitan Area using this method

“The computer attack was duly reported to the authorities and so far we still do not know where it came from”, said the company around 10:30 on Tuesday, noting that “every effort was being made to resolve the problem” .

The Navegante card can be loaded in all physical locations where it was already possible to do so before the possibility given this year by the mobile application.

“It is usual for a large turnout at this time to go to places to renew access to the free pass, which students have to do every year. This year it was extended until the end of October, but the influx is normal, especially at this time, so the application was a way of avoiding queues”, explained the official source, remembering the existence of a line to activate the free service in the case of young people. students (218 206 050).

Users can also load the card at an ATM, at transport operators’ ticket offices and at automatic vending machines at CP – Comboios de Portugal, Metropolitano de Lisboa, Metro Sul do Tejo, Transtejo/Soflusa and Fertagus, in addition to Navegante Payshop agent network.

The Navegante card is the monthly pass, with various types, which can be used on all public transport in the 18 municipalities of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, such as the Carris and Carris Metropolitana road network, the CP and Fertagus trains, the Metropolitano de Lisboa, Metro Sul do Tejo and the MobiCascais bus network, among others.
