Former swimmer Carlos Peralta, new general director of CELAD

The CGoverning Council of the Spanish Commission for the Anti-Doping in Sports (CELAD) approved the appointment of Carlos Peralta Gallego (Málaga, 1994) as general director of the organization.

Carlos Peralta assumes the leadership of the Spanish Anti-Doping Agency after having directed the Department of Doping Prevention Policies in Sports since April. Take the baton from Silvia Calzón that, less than eight months after being appointed director of CELAD, she left the position to go to Pedro Sánchez’s Cabinet in Moncloa as director of the Department of Attention and Response to Citizens.

Carlos Peralta has a past as a highly competitive athlete. TOHe announced his definitive retirement from swimming in 2019, at the age of 25.. Before, He broke the national record for the 200 butterfly in the 50-meter pool eight times, lowering it from 1:58.89 to 1:56.42. The first twelve marks in the test are yours.

His best international result was fifth place in the 2016 European Championships, in which final he established his last national record.. In 2014 he was sixth, breaking the Spanish record every time he swam. ANDAt the Rio Olympic Games he finished in twenty-first position in the qualifying rounds.. He never competed in the World Cup in a 50-meter pool.

Peralta combined his sport with his career in Medicine, from which he graduated in the Complutense University of Madrid. He chose this career out of vocation, as he acknowledged in a report in MARCA. He has a Master’s Degree in Health Management and Planning For Health Managers from the EU, a Master’s Degree in Hospital and Health Service Management from the CEU and a Master’s Degree in Bioethics.

He has three career civil servant positions such as State doctor in the Ministry of Health, medical inspector of the National Social Security Institute and doctor of the Health Department of the Junta de Andalucía. In April of this year he joined CELAD from the General Directorate of Public Health and Health Equity of the Ministry of Health.where he worked as area manager and, previously, as a medical inspector.

During the voting process for his appointment, the CELAD Governing Council has vpositively praised the fact that Carlos Peralta has participated in a decisive way, as a member of the new management teamin the process of implementing the current CELAD management model.
