Government will review law to allow pensions to be updated in the year following their award

The Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security confirmed today that the Government will review the legislation to allow pensions to be updated in the year following their grant, a measure that will be approved by the Council of Ministers this week.

Maria do Rosário Ramalho was speaking at the parliamentary conferences of the PSD and CDS-PP that run until Tuesday at the Assembly of the Republic, when she announced that, “as part of the international day of the elderly”, at the next Council of Ministers the Government will launch “measures in the area of longevity and dependencies”.

The official stated that one of them “has already been pre-announced” in the comment space of social democrat Luís Marques Mendes, on SIC: “Updates of new pensions in the immediately following year”.

The PS announced a legislative initiative in this regard this morning.

Since 2006, the law has established that pensions and reforms from Caixa Geral de Aposentações or Social Security are only updated from the second year of their grant. BE scheduled a debate in parliament for October 17th on a project from its bench relating to this topic.

“But I want to tell you that it is not the only one we are going to launch”, said the minister.
