Xutos & Pontapés were decorated by Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of the Republic, with the rank of Commander of the Order of Liberty. This tribute comes in the year in which the band celebrates 45 years of career – and just a few months away from joining the celebration of BLITZ’s 40th anniversary at the party at Meo Arena, in Lisbon.
The ceremony took place at the Palácio de Belém, the official residence of the President of the Republic, according to a note on the presidency’s website last Friday. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa “imposed the badges” on the four living members of Xutos & Pontapés, Tim, Kalú, Gui and João Cabeleira, and also on Zé Pedro, with the badges being handed over to Cristina Avides, widow of the late guitarist.
