Portuguese citizens and their families who asked to leave Lebanon have already arrived in Portugal

The first Portuguese people removed from Lebanon have already arrived in Portugal, following an operation by the Portuguese State to bring to safety the national citizens who asked to leave the country, after a week of intense bombings by Israel, which left more than 700 dead.

In total, there are around 100 Portuguese citizens registered as residents in Lebanon, according to the information that SIC Notícias collected, and this flight did not bring them all. Portuguese people can only be repatriated if they ask. This Saturday 44 people arrived in Lisbon, but the Government says it is in contact with those who stayed, in case they also have to be removed.

The Air Force’s operation to repatriate Portuguese people from Lebanon – a mission requested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MNE) and the Ministry of National Defense – began on Friday, involving two phases: a first, in which national citizens and their family members were transported to Lanarca, in Cyprus; and a second phase, completed today, with its transport from Cyprus to Portugal.

In a statement, the MNE indicated that “the repatriation operation involved a Falcon-50 plane and a KC-390 plane” from the Portuguese Air Force (FAP).
