Hurricane “Isaac” will pass on Sunday 600 km from the western islands of the Azores, Flores and Corvo

Hurricane “Isaac” is expected to pass around 600 kilometers from the Western group of the Azores on Sunday, with sea disturbances expected with waves that could reach five meters, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) announced this Saturday.

“The day on which the center of cyclone ‘Isaac’ will be closest to the archipelago is expected to be Sunday (29th), passing approximately 600 kilometers to the west-northwest of the Western group” made up of the Islands of Flores and Corvo, he said the IPMA.

The tropical cyclone, classified as a category two hurricane, is expected to cause “increased sea agitation, with waves from the west that can reach four to five meters in significant height”.

On Saturday morning, the “Isaac” was 878 kilometers west of the island of Flores, traveling at 31 kilometers per hour.

The IPMA also warns that due to a low-pressure zone that exists to the south-southwest of the archipelago, the islands of the Western (Flores and Corvo) and Central (Pico, Faial, São Jorge, Terceira and Graciosa) groups should be subject to rain sometimes strong, with those seven islands under yellow warning until 12pm on Sunday.
