EThis weekend at the British Grand Prix Lewis Hamilton returned to the top of the podium 945 days later. The one from Mercedes managed to win again on his home circuit, on his talisman circuit. The connection between Silverstone and the English driver is already Formula 1 history after surpassing Michael Schumacher.

The German shared with Hamilton a historical record that no driver has managed to come close to. Until a few days ago, Schumacher and the Englishman were tied as the drivers who had managed to win a race on the same circuit the most times, with a total of eight times. After this weekend’s Grand Prix, which had the Mercedes driver as the new winner, Hamilton broke this mark and became alone as the driver who has won the most times on a circuit with nine victories at Silverstone.

A historical record within the reach of very few

The one from Mercedes is good at playing at home and this weekend he showed it again. Michael Schumacher was able to achieve eight victories in the French Grand Prix between 1994 and 2006. While the Englishman has surpassed him with nine victories at Silverstoneand they remain tied due to the eight times they have won in Hungary.

The two drivers occupy the top of the list of winners on the same circuit and not only because of France and Great Britain. Since the Englishman also has eight victories in Hungary, and seven on the Canadian circuit. While Schumacher dominated at the Magny-Cours circuit with those eight wins, and also achieved up to seven victories at the San Marino Grand Prix and, like Hamilton, at the Guilles-Villeneuve circuit.

In two weeks the Englishman will have the opportunity to surpass Schumacher again and equal his recent record at the Hungarian Grand Prix. And after the recent good results that both Russell and he are achieving, anything can be possible in this World Cup after the improvements of the German team.

The record man

Sunday’s race was going to be remembered by Hamilton no matter what, since it was his last British Grand Prix driving for Mercedes. Already In qualifying it seemed like a great weekend for the German team that placed its two cars on the front line. Hamilton ended up overtaking his teammate who had to abandon and managed to stay ahead of Verstappen and Lando, thus achieving his 104th victory.

With this victory the Englishman has increased his figure which makes him the driver with the most victories in the premier category of motorsport, and at the same time he is the first driver to win after 300 races in Formula 1. In a competition where more and more drivers debut youths, Hamilton has proven that age is just a number by becoming the oldest winner (39 years and 182 days).

Hamilton was going through a difficult time, since he had not won since 2021 in Saudi Arabia, close to 1,000 days without uncorking the champagne at the top. 17 years and one month after he achieved his first victory in the top category, the longest distance between the first victory and the last of a driver in F1, the Englishman has returned to the podium.

A podium that is special for the Englishman, since he has achieved it in front of his people. Situation to which the one from Mercedes is already accustomed, since another piece of information with which he has enlarged his legend this weekend is that with this achieves the best streak of podiums in history on the same circuit with a total of 12. Hamilton is one podium away from reaching 200 and surpassing his mark, which is already the history of the competition. The next opportunity will be on July 21 in Hungary.
