Books: “Woke Racism”, a new religion
John McWhorter is a very intelligent man. This is the first observation that we come across in “Woke Racism†. Page after page we find brilliant paragraphs that explore (that is, undo) language and logic, or lack thereof, in what he describes as the third wave of anti-racism and a new religion — a fanatical ideology that demands repentance and perpetual submission from white people in atonement for ancestral sins. “How would a country as large, heterogeneous and politically divided as the USA ever reach a final and comprehensive consensus that ‘resolves’ racism? ‘Radical’ whites are incorrigible gentiles, they tell us. Okay, but if so, what will make them change their minds? Read ‘White Fragility’?†writes McWhorter. “The elect do not like to hear these questions, and even consider them arrogant, as if they were asking us how we dare question the divine. The language itself is liturgical, referring only approximately to real existence, and only comprehensible in its entirety as poetry, spirit or prophecy.â€
