Cotrim de Figueiredo criticizes ‘tricas’ and calls for internal unity: “What inspires the most? An angry party or an optimistic and constructive one?”
It was Bernardo Blanco, vice-president of the Liberal Initiative (IL), who had the task of presenting the party’s new political program, which is being debated and will be voted on this Sunday at the National Convention, in Santa Maria da Feira. The deputy defended the need to update the program in light of the party’s new phase and said he hoped the debate on the document would be constructive, after a first day with some more tense moments. “I hope the discussion is in good faith and above political trifles. It is much more what unites us than what separates us,” he stressed.
But it was João Cotrim de Figueiredo who made the most energetic appeal for the approval of the political program, also leaving warnings for navigation, with messages mainly for the interior. “It couldn’t be a better program, with this ability for the party to continue to grow. There are 35 pages of pure liberalism,” he argued, to the applause of congressmen.
