“Pepe, take a photo with me”: National team welcomed in euphoria upon arrival in Portugal
At 7:20 pm this Saturday, the Portuguese players began to leave Lisbon airport after having left Germany following the elimination of the Euro 2024. SIC followed the moment in which the Portuguese stars distributed autographs to fans awaiting their arrival.
Upon arrival on Portuguese soil, the Portuguese delegation was faced with a crowd of fans who immediately requested photos and autographs from the athletes.
Pepe, much loved by those present, was, by far, the most sought after player, having distributed countless autographs and taking several photographs for around 10 minutes.
Rúben Dias and Roberto Martínez were the other two members of the team who contacted directly with the fans, who continued to welcome the national team, despite the defeat against France.
Cristiano Ronaldo and seven other players did not continue with the national team to Portugal.
Pepe’s (few) words on his return to Portugal
“Very good, very good”, were the only words Pepe said to SIC after arriving in Portugal. No player, nor member of the national team’s coaching staff spoke to the media.
Portugal was eliminated, on Friday, in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 after losing on penalties (5-3) against the French teamafter the match ended in a goalless draw.
