Caciquismo and false records return to shadow PS-Coimbra: there is already involvement with the Public Ministry

Over the last 15 years, the Socialist Party of Coimbra has collected cases of worst chiefdom practices, with mass recruitment of militants, undue payment of wholesale quotas, false records, judicial investigations and fines applied to socialist leaders to avoid going to trial. Some were suspended and others left. A dozen years after the last controversy, that PS Federation is once again involved in the case of alleged forgeries or irregularities. Daniel Antão, vice-president of that PS district federation, is being accused by other members of the board of having single-handedly approved hundreds of militant fileswith falsified data, approved in meetings that never took place. With elections for socialist councils scheduled for this Saturday, the case is before the PS Jurisdiction Council and a report of the facts has already been made to the Public Ministry.

On the eve of internal elections, the pressure always increases in the big parties to increase the number of militants with the increase in “bags and votes” in favor of local leaders, especially when local authorities approach . In this case, the municipalities of Condeixa-a-Nova, Soure and Coimbra are mainly at stake. The secretariat of the Coimbra federation said it was “surprised†by the arrival of 234 registration forms for new activists at the national headquarters, with approval dates by the secretariat on days when there was no meeting of that body (December 6th and 12th or February 25th, for example), according to disciplinary participation presented by the district to the National Jurisdiction Council (the party’s internal court). If these files concern Condeixa, there is another case of around 800 tokens in Soure, also with alleged problems, including certificates improperly issued by the Parish Council. According to the complaint, there will also be 21 files of militants in Coimbra to be assessed, which were not subject to deliberation by the secretariat.
