Bosses reject six-day week in Portugal: Greek model is inappropriate
Une of the problems that Greece wants to solve with the adoption of the six-day week is its low productivity. The latest data made available by Eurostat show that in 2023 labor productivity in the country was equivalent to 70.1% of the European Union average, having even fallen by 0.3 percentage points (pp) compared to the previous year. But Greece is not the only country with this problem. Slovakia (79.5%), Latvia (72.8%), Hungary (73.3%), Bulgaria (56.8%) and even Portugal (80.5%) are some of the countries whose productivity associated with work is below that recorded in Europe 27. In the national economy, the average productivity per worker was 28 pp below that recorded in the average of European Union countries in the last year.
