Authenticity and the North region highlighted in applications for the 2024 National Tourism Award

With the aim of distinguishing the best that is done in this sector at a national level, the 6th edition of the PNT – National Tourism Award entered the application analysis phase. Of the 397 received until June 7th in the areas of Authentic, Gastronomic, Inclusive, Innovative and Sustainable Tourism, the first stands out with 137 registrations, followed by Gastronomic Tourism (97), Sustainable Tourism vel (79, Innovative Tourism (55) and Inclusive Tourism (29).

Regarding the origin of the projects, the majority of candidates for this 6th edition represent the North region of the country (93), followed by Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (86), Centro (65), Aí §ores (46), Algarve (43), Alentejo (38) and Madeira (26).

Promoting, encouraging and distinguishing the best companies, practices and projects in the sector in Portugal is the main objective of PNT – National Tourism Awardan initiative by Expresso and BPI.

Applications presented in the various categories will be evaluated again by Deloitte, Technical Committees and a Jury, until September 30th. Committee and jury meetings take place in October and November. Once the winners have been determined, the prizes will be awarded in November.

Innovation, sustainability and training are some of the transversal criteria used for this evaluation and election of winners. The PNT rewards companies, public projects and personalities that stand out in the five defined categories but also recognizes those who have stood out in the last year, due to the work carried out in the sector, with the Personality Award.

Reason Restaurant

Remember that in 2023, the award broke the record for applications, with a total of 768 distributed across the five categories. Montebelo Mosteiro Alcobaça Historic Hotel and the Agità gueda Art Festival were awarded equally in the Authentic Tourism category, the Razão Restaurant by Octávio Freitas, in Madeira, was the winner in the Gastronomic Tourism category, unique – An Este Oeste project and Semear, in Lisbon, won the Inclusive Tourism award, the Ultra Blue project Island by Azores Trail Run won in the Innovative Tourism category and, in the Sustainable Tourism category, AQUA+Hotéis – Ãgua in the right measure and Boom Festival 2022 were also winners equally.

The big news of PNT 2023 was the awarding of the Personality Award for the first time and replacing the Career Award. Luís Araújo, who served as president of Turismo de Portugal between February 2016 and June 2023, was chosen by the PNT Jury.

The Expresso and BPI initiative has the high sponsorship of the Ministry of Economy and the Sea, the institutional support of Turismo de Portugal, IP, and the technical support of Deloitte.
