RThe chronicles say that it was at the end of the 20th century, in the distant year of grace of 1996, that, in the North of Portugal, more specifically, in Santa Maria da Feira, the idea arose – or, at least, There it will have been put into practice for the first time. Amadeu Albertino Soares Albergaria, then a young law student at the University of Coimbra, helps us reconstruct history. “The source of inspiration was the castle, a dominant presence in the city, and the imagery of the Middle Ages,†narrates the mayor who currently presides over the destinies of the Feira municipality. With the help of “two students from the University of Aveiro, a medieval market and historical recreation was organized around the monument,†says Amadeu Albergaria. And in this apparently simple way, the ‘Medieval Journey in Terras de Santa Maria’ was born and the seed for the phenomenon was sown in Portugal.
